Irena Armutidisová (* 1988 v Ostravě) - Jaguár (2021) a Hyeny (2018)

Díky tomu mají Armutidisové sochy nezaměnitelný výraz, mimiku a živost, takže k divákovi promlouvají laskavým humorem a jemnou nadsázkou.

Irena Armutidisová studovala v ateliéru prof. Jana Hendrycha v letech 2007–2013. Žije a pracuje v Brně a ve Veverských Knínicích.

Irena Armutidisová (*1988 in Ostrava) - Jaguar (2021) & Hyenas (2018)

Irena Armutidisová has continuously focused on the topic of animals since her studies. Apart from anatomy, which differs from one animal species to another and offers an endless variety of sculptural solutions, she is interested in the possibilities of capturing both real and latent movement present in the body of animals even when they are resting. She likes to personify the nature of animals into her or the human world. The very choice of the animal therefore reflects the artist's feelings, emotions and current state of mind. For her, Jaguar (2021) is a symbol of a dream come true, a childhood desire for a fluffy toy from a petrol station which she never got, and which she transformed many years later into a life-size statue, a kind of sphinx guarding this childhood dream. Similarly, she has been fascinated by Hyenas (2018) since childhood, especially by their casting in the role of negative characters, whether in the world of animals or, in a metaphorical sense, in the world of humans. In contrast to established stereotypes, she therefore portrayed hyenas as inquisitive creatures with intelligent expressions and noble bodies. The sculptural concept of both exhibited works reveals that Armutidisová’s oeuvre draws on the legacy of the Italian sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti, with whom she shares a sense of a realistic grasp of sculpture which she transcends towards expressiveness and light stylization. As a result, Armutidisová’s sculptures have an unmistakable expression and vividness and speak to the viewer with subtle humour and gentle exaggeration.

Irena Armutidisová studied in the studio of Prof. Jan Hendrych in 2007-2013. In 2012 she completed a study stay at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht. She lives and works in Brno and Veverské Knínice.
